River Is A Moving Body | Katie Yancey
August 8–28, 2013 | White Gallery
Reception: Thursday, August 8, 2013 | 5–8pm
Working across the mediums of video, photography, sound, and performance, utilizing both digital processes and sculptural, physical elements, there is a blurring of the seemingly disparate realities of the digital and the physical. River is a Moving Body explores these spaces of disconnect, focusing on the boundaries of materiality and presentation as a way to extend the two-dimensionality of digital information into a physical space, and into a relationship with the body. The material or non-material that is the subject of the work includes moving images of performances in the artist’s studio and in Oregon National Forests.
Katie Yancey is an artist, writer, and poet from Peoria, Illinois. She attended The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (BFA 2009) and is currently pursuing an MFA in Contemporary Art Practice at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. Her work explores the relationship between humans, technology, and the environment.
