Artist Bio
Kitty Kai-Xin Gin is a LA-based visual artist whose works are focused on the juxtaposition of contrasting concepts. Kitty is inspired mainly by Renaissance archetypes, science fiction, and Chinese folklore. Her vibrant pieces aim to balance both unsettling imagery with exciting color palettes and are an exploration of the human psyche.
Kitty is currently an art student whose works have been exhibited throughout the West Coast and sold internationally. She is also the owner of her own art shop and plans to expand her work into sculpture and apparel.
Artist Statement
Fever Dream was a concept proposed by my close friend, collector, and curator, Mui Easland. It embodies my artistic endeavor of this year: to create art which is magically unsettling.
These pieces are inspired by the Chinese understanding of dreams. Dreams are a voyage into other worlds and as such, nightmares are worlds inhabited by demons.
I have always been fascinated by both Chinese demons, Mogui, and European demons. Overall, I wanted to combine both sensibilities to create visions that were both beautiful and distressing just like a fever dream.
This collection is built atop my last series, Toxikologie, which was focused on combining Plague era attire with modern Harajuku fashion. The dark beauty of the plague mask still haunts my dreams so you will see allusions to them in many of these pieces as well.
For this collection, I decided to combine digital art with traditional and create uniquely vivid mixed media pieces. Overall, I want my work to be captivating to the eye and to bring some lesser known artistic subjects into the modern world.
